From the fryin’ pan and into the fire: CC to face Mater Dei
Corydon Central’s boys basketball team has no chance to take a breather in the regional round of the state tournament.
Just one week removed from winning one of the toughest and most balanced sectionals in the state ‘ Corydon’s fourth in a row and 12th overall ‘ the Panthers move on to Saturday’s Class 3A Washington Regional to face Evansville Mater Dei, which sits at 17-6.
The Panthers are the defending regional champions.
The first game, which tips off at 10 a.m., pits No. 4-ranked Vincennes (18-5) against Greencastle (17-7). The Corydon-Mater Dei battle will be at noon.
The Wildcats feature a balanced lineup and are led by 6-3 senior Matt Halbig and his 17.3 ppg. and 7.9 rpg.
Mater Dei’s second-leading scorer is a big man in the middle, 6-9 junior Wacey Hall. He puts in almost 14 points a game and grabbed seven boards.
Hall had 15 points, 10 rebounds and blocked five shots in his team’s title game win.
Two other top scorers for the team are 5-11 junior guard Craig Maier (9.1) and 6-0 sophomore Kelly Muensterman 8.8 ppg.
Tickets will be on sale from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the athletic office at CCHS and are available until noon on Friday.
The cost is $9 for season ticket and there is no reserved seating. Single-session tickets are $6 at the door.
