Councilman Mathes to have surgery today

Harrison County Councilman Carl (Buck) Mathes of Corydon will have a heart catheterization procedure today at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
He said that could lead to the installation of a pacemaker in his chest. Mathes, 56, said he suffers from an irregular heart beat.
He said the irregularity was detected about five weeks ago when he was being examined for a cancerous prostate gland. He said he will be treated ‘aggressively’ for that as soon as he recovers from this week’s surgery.
Mathes said he feels good and worked all day Monday.
He is frequently asked about his health. ‘They think I ought to be on my deathbed, but I’m not,’ he said with a laugh. He expects to spend tonight in the hospital and be released tomorrow.
Mathes said he isn’t sure how much of his physical condition is of interest to the general public, but, as an outspoken Democrat county councilman for eight years now, he declared: ‘What I do is public record.’
He is also running for a third four-year term on the council.
