Teen dies after crash

A North Harrison High School student died early Saturday morning from injuries she sustained in a car crash the previous day.
Elizabeth G. (Lizzie) Banet, 16, New Salisbury, was driving west Friday morning on Old S.R. 64 when she ran off the right side of the road after topping a hill about 11:15 a.m., according to Officer Gil Romero of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept.
Banet’s car traveled about 85 feet before going back on the road, Romero said. It spun, went left of center and off the left side of the road west of the New Salisbury Golf Course.
When the vehicle left the road, the right side of the car struck a tree, and Banet suffered major head injuries, the police report said.
Banet was wearing a seat belt. She was taken by ground ambulance to University of Louisville Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:25 Saturday morning.
Banet was a junior at North Harrison High School and a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Floyds Knobs.
Survivors include her father, Nick Banet; her mother, Beth Durham; three sisters, Sarah Banet, Anne Miller and Laura Miller, and her grandfather, Lerald Gray.
The funeral was yesterday (Tuesday) in the chapel at Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
The family suggests memorial gifts to North Harrison High School.
