Gertrude L. Barksdale

Gertrude I. Smith Barksdale, 77, Floyds Knobs, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
A native of Floyds Knobs, she was a former employee of the old Indiana Army Ammunition Plant in Charlestown and Huber’s Winery in Starlight. She was a homemaker, a member of Hill & Dale Homemakers Club and St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, and a volunteer at the Community Soup Kitchen in Jeffersonville.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Doll.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Louis Barksdale; a son, Michael Barksdale of Lanesville; three daughters, Theresa Applegate of New Albany, Elaine Jacobi of Floyd Knobs and Gloria Jones of Lanesville; a brother, Bill Smith of Floyds Knobs; three sisters, Eleanor Hammersmith of Clarksville, Beatrice Keach of New Albany and Dorothy Spaulding of Clarksville; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Prayer service: Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany.
Funeral: Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Knobs Church with burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Hospice of Southern Indiana or St. Mary of the Knobs Church Building Fund.
