Elizabeth man, 73, dies in one car crash near Corydon
Curtis W. Townsend, 73, Elizabeth, was killed yesterday afternoon in a single car crash on the Corydon-New Middletown Road southeast of Corydon.
Lt. Chris Walden, with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept., said Townsend was driving his 1995 Mercury Tracer east on the winding, hilly road when the car apparently slid on the wet asphalt. Townsend apparently overcorrected and his car went up a steep earthen embankment on the west-bound side of the road, hit a tree and overturned.
Harrison County Coroner Chad Cesar said Townsend died at the scene from blunt force head trauma.
Police estimate the accident occurred about 3:47 p.m. east of the intersection of the Corydon-New Middletown Road, Smith Hill Road and the S.R. 62 interchange road.
Townsend lived on Rabbit Hash Road near Elizabeth.
The body is at Beanblossom Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon where funeral plans are pending.
