James J. Flora Sr.

James J. Flora Sr., 91, Merrillville, died Saturday, April 12, at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus.
A native of Mauckport, he was a retired employee of North American Rockwell Standard after 35 years and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 244th Bombing Squadron for 17 months in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Merrillville United Methodist Church, the Lake County Agricultural Society, and a 54-year member of Merrillville American Legion Post 430.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Flora.
Survivors include a son, James J. Flora Jr. of Crown Point; a daughter, Alice Smedstad of Long Grove, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The American Legion Post 430 conducted a service Monday, April 14, and the funeral was Tuesday, April 15, at Geisen Funeral Home with interment at Calumet Park Cemetery, both in Merrillville.
