Corydon opens golf campaign

Corydon Central’s boys golf team opened its season last Thursday afternoon at Old Capital Golf Club, surprising its head coach in a victory over Salem and Graceland Christian.
Alex Zimmerman, the Panthers’ No. 1 player, shot a 42 after penciling in several bogies on the starting holes, and Cory Schneider had a 44 at the No. 2 position. Bobby Ordner, playing at No. 3, had the round of the afternoon for Corydon with a 41. Freshman Jared Ashton had a 47, Dustin Thomas had a 49 and Chris Becker a 50 to round out the field for Corydon.
‘The thing is, I’m going to expect Alex and Cory to play better and those other guys to play the same or better now,’ Panthers coach Jack Miles said. ‘I tend to keep my standards pretty high.’
On Saturday the team competed in the Ron Veleta Invitational at Wooded View in Clarksville and wound up 7th overall.
Alex Zimmerman led the way for the Panthers with an 86 on the par-72 course. Cory Schneider marked an 89, Bobby Ordner had a 96, Dustin Thomas scored 98 and Jared Ashton carded a 106.
