CC wrestling trio moves on to Semi-State

Eight wrestlers from Corydon Central took part in the Jeffersonville Regional Tournament on Saturday, with three working their magic to move on to the Evansville Semi-State this weekend at fabled Roberts Stadium.
Bryan Eads, Chris Gill and Tyler Williams will be making the trip west this Saturday morning to represent the Panthers.
First-round action gets underway at 9 a.m. The cost is $7 for a season ticket or $5 for final session only.
Eads, who competes at 112-lbs., was defeated in the final by Floyd Central’s Brad Spine, 8-2. In the semifinal round, Eads knocked off Pike Central’s Jordan Earls, 4-0, and in the first round he was a 12-0 victor over Dustin Janes of Paoli.
Gill stuck Riley Pitstick of Jasper in the opener of the 119-lb. weight class with 1:12 left in the second period, then moved on to defeat North Knox’s Chris Wanke by a score of 13-10.
He fell in the championship, however, to Charlestown’s Ryan Kendrick, 10-2.
Williams continued his hot-streak by tripping up Mike Harrell by technical fall, 19-4, in the opening bout of 152, and then pinned Jared Steckler of Southridge with 39 ticks left in the third frame.
In the final, Williams was pinned at 4:37 by Daniel Twitty of Vincennes.
Other wrestlers who took part in the day’s action, but failed to advance, were Chris Paulley, who was defeated by Eric Matthews of Southridge in 130, David Bradstock, who was stuck by Forest Park’s Jeremy Evitts in the first at 1:17 and Jason Ward, who fell in overtime at 145 to Cameron Deno of Jasper, 8-6.
