J. Herschel Russell

J. Herschel (Hersh) Russell, 83, Georgetown, died Friday morning, Jan. 3, at his home.
A native of Floyd County, born Oct. 22, 1919, he was the son of the late James L. and Mary Wade Russell.
He was a retired labor and maintenance worker at the old Louisville Cement Co., an Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Bronze Star and the presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Indiana Sheriff’s Association, National Rifle Association and Edwardsville United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis D. Russell.
Survivors include his wife, the former Helen M. Prenatt; a son, James E. (Sonny) Russell of Navilleton; a sister, Vivian Barr of Georgetown; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral: Monday, Jan. 6, at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
The family suggests memorial gifts to his church.
