Dennis Vernon Sheckells, 79, Leavenworth, died at 11:05 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24.
A native of Crawford County, born July 9, 1923, he was the son of the late Albert and Hettie Attwood Sheckells.
He was a retired school bus driver for the Leavenworth schools for more than 35 years, a former Crawford County deputy sheriff, a Leavenworth town marshal and a member of Holy Mount Holiness Church at Alton.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Nettie Waggoner, and two brothers, Harry and Norman Sheckells.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Kathleen Buford; two sons, Dennis and Michael Sheckells, both of English; two daughters, Carolyn Miller of Springfield, Ohio, and Judith Hartlief of Alton; four brothers, Douglas Sheckells of New Albany, Amuel Sheckells of Mississippi, Robert Sheckells of Floyds Knobs and Ernest Sheckells of New Albany; three sisters, Lou Dell Bowden of Westfield, Junie Mae Perkins of Floyds Knobs and Wanda Vetter of Georgetown; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Funeral: Friday, Dec. 27, at Holy Mount Holiness Church with burial in Holy Mount Cemetery.
Officiants: Brothers Marvin Culver and Geary Sadler.
