Pauline Parks Bower, 85, Clarksville, died Thursday, Dec. 19, at her home.
A native of Urbana, Ill., born June 26, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Omer and Anna Fischer Parks.
She was a retired clerk for the U.S. Census Bureau in Jeffersonville, a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Jeffersonville, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Howard Steamboat Museum and the Interpretive Center in Clarksville.
She was the first woman to work at Jeffboat and was hired in 1939, and winning a contest, named the Jeffersonville High School paper, “The Hyphen.”
Survivors include two sons, Gary P. Bower of Corydon and Gene A. Bower of Charlestown; a brother, Charles Parks of Jeffersonville; and a grandson.
Funeral: Monday, Dec. 23, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church followed by cremation. Officiant: Karen Masso.
Arrangements: Scott Funeral Home in Jeffersonville.
The family suggests memorial gifts to her church or Hospice and Palliative Care of Southern Indiana.
