NH scores, but falls, 38-7

North Harrison scored on its first drive of the game, but after that it was all Eagles as host Brown County raced to a 38-7 victory in the first round of the Sectional 23 football playoffs.
North’s Lance Mitchell returned the ball 36 yards to the 34. Two plays later, Cory Beckman busted free for 18 yards to the 14 and after three short gains, Cody Mitchell scored on a fourth-down, nine-yard run to the left side. Nick Blanton added the extra point to give the Cougars a 7-0 lead at the 3:11 mark of the first.
From there, it was all Brown County.
“We seemed more ready to play pre-game than previously and came out and ran a good return and then scored quickly,” Cougars coach Dan Haskell said. “Defensively we played well at times but we still gave up the big plays.”
The Cougars (1-9) were outscored 481-26 this season and found the end zone just four times.
The Eagles tied it with 2:02 remaining in the first quarter when fullback Joe Oliphant took one in from 27 yards out and into the end zone.
Brown County added two more scores in the second quarter and three more in the fourth to win going away.
North gave up 249 rushing yards and 180 via the pass while gaining 47 total yards: 42 rushing and five passing.
Brown County gained 19 first downs to the Cougars’ two.
