CC the heavy favorite in Big Cats

The 25th-annual Big Cat Classic will take place this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. on the campus of Corydon Central High School, and the hosts will be looking for a bit of revenge after dropping the past three classics by a combined score of 67-6. Not included in that lop-sided margin is a 46-6 whipping by North Harrison during the 1999 sectional tournament.
The last triumph by Corydon in the series came in 1998 when the Panthers came away with a 31-8 win that proved to be the team’s only victory of the season. The team won in 1997 by a score of 39-12, but the game was later forfeited because Corydon used an ineligible player in the game.
So what’s in store for Friday night? Anyone who has followed the Panthers this season is well aware of the defensive prowess the team possesses. Couple that with a lethargic North Harrison offense that has only scored three times this season and it could be a recipe for disaster for the visiting Cougars.
“We have to come out Friday night and play like we haven’t played all year. That’s the way we’ve been approaching every week. You’ve got to come out and improve and play harder than you did the week before,” North Harrison coach Dan Haskell said. “We’ve still got people missing their blocks. We’ve still got people standing around thinking somebody else is going to do it. Our linebackers are still not playing tough and as a staff we’ve still just got to keep after them. You’ve just got to get after it. It’ll be a tough game.”
Corydon assistant coach Kerry Zimmerman said his team won’t take North Harrison lightly, especially with what’s a stake.
“We’ve been where they are at. We’ve had our backs against the wall. It’s bragging rights, people you’ll know and see and probably be neighbors with in the future. We’re definitely not overlooking these guys. There’s too much at stake. It’s Senior Night, too. There’s a lifetime of bragging rights in this game to overlook anything,” Zimmerman said.
— Pre-game festivities will begin at 7 p.m. for Corydon’s Senior Night. Parking will be available in both the East and West parking lots for the game.
