Local athletes medal at state games

Five girls from Corydon took part in the Hoosier State Games at Plainfield Sports Center June 22-23, winning silver medals for their efforts.
Jade Best, Krista Wolfe, Jackie Turner, Ann Powers and Beth Shireman teamed up with Floyd Central’s Katie Ferree, Erin Peak and Elaine Briscoe for the runner-up finish in the 18-under division.
Tony Shireman, a sixth-grader to be from Corydon, was the state champion in the 100 hurdles event in 20.25.
Competing in the aged 11 Midget Division, he also was runner in the high jump with a leap of 4-2.
The track and field competition took place at North Central High School in Indianapolis on June 22.
