Barbara Middleton has been chosen to head this year’s Metro United Way campaign in Harrison County.
Middleton, a graduate of Ohio State University, is the district manager for Cinergy/PSI’s Corydon/Salem district.
“Barbara brings an incredible amount of passion to her role as chair,” said Barbara Bridgwater, director of Metro United Way of Harrison County.
The United Way campaign goal will be announced next month, Middleton said. Last year, $416,000 was raised. Middleton said she is “very optimistic” that that total can be surpassed, thanks to some matching opportunities available this year that weren’t available last year.
The “Pacesetters’ campaign” will be announced the end of this month or July, and “We hope to have the first 40 percent of our goal ‘in house’ by the first of September,” she said. The campaign will begin in earnest for business and employees in the fall.
“Through her role on the Community Investment Team, which determines how donated funds are distributed, Barbara has a great understanding of the difference these contributions make in the lives of people in Harrison County,” said Bridgwater, “and she intends to work aggressively this year in order to make even more funds available for distribution.”
In addition to the campaign role and the Community Investment Team, Middleton is a member of the Metro United Way Advisory Board, the Corydon Rotary Club, vice chair of the board of the directors of the Chamber of Commerce of Harrison County, Harrison County Hospital board and Regional Leadership Coalition.
She has worked in the Corydon area since 1985.
Middleton and her husband, Ronnie, live in the Odyssey subdivision east of Corydon. Her son, Brett, 23, attends the University of Louisville Speed School of Engineering.
