John B. Dotson

John Bennett Dotson, 83, Harrisburg, Ill., died Tuesday, May 21, at 8:30 p.m. at his home.
A native of Leavenworth, born Oct. 16, 1918, he was the son of the late Joe Christofferson and Oneida Dotson.
He was a veteran of World War II with the 1st Armored Division in Africa, Sicily and Italy, and was a tech sergeant with the 47th Medics. He was a past president of 1st Armored Division Association in 1988 and 1989, a five-year member of Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star in Crawford County, a member of Egyptian Shrine Club, and he attended Harrisburg First Baptist Church.
A 1937 graduate of Leavenworth High School, he taught school in English and at Paducah (Ky.) Junior College, and coached basketball and baseball in Harrisburg from 1956 to 1961, and in Vincennes from 1961 to 1964.
Survivors include his wife, the former Marjorie Mugge; a son, Sonny Dotson of Harrisburg; a daughter, Patricia Zarse of Greenwood; and four grandchildren.
The funeral was Friday, May 24, at Gaskins Funeral Home in Harrisburg with burial in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Mike Davis officiated.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the John Dotson Scholarship Fund at Southeastern Illinois College.
