Sonya K. Wahl

Sonya Kathrine Wahl, 17, Marysville, died Sunday, May 26 at University of Louisville Trauma Center following a car crash May 23.
She was a National Honor Society graduate of New Washington High School’s Class of 2002, was awarded the Clark County Player of the Year for 2000-2001 and 2001-2002, was on The Courier-Journal All-State Team, Hoosier Basketball Coaches Award All Star Team and the Reebok North-South All-State Team. She ranked fourth in the state for number of total season points.
She was president of her senior class, and vice president of the Science and Spanish clubs and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions). She collected frogs and peered for children, and attended First Baptist Church in New Washington.
Survivors include her parents, David and Helen Wahl; two brothers, Jason and Zack Wahl, both of Marysville, and grandparents, Theresa Weston of New Salisbury and Ron and Zeta Wahl of Sellersburg.
The funeral was Thursday, May 30, at the New Washington High School Gymnasium with burial in the Lexington Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Sonya Wahl Memorial Basketball Scholarship Fund in care of the New Washington State Bank.
