Roy N. Smith

Roy Neil Smith, 77, Floyds Knobs, died early Sunday, March 31, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., from heart failure following a long battle with heart disease.
A native of Floyds Knobs, born Sept. 22, 1924, he was the son of the late Noah and Nora Scott Smith.
He retired from DuPont de Nemours Co. in Louisville, and was a 1943 graduate of New Albany High School, an Army-Air Force pilot in World War II, and was awarded Good Conduct, American Third Service and Victory medals. He received an honorable discharge from the service on Feb. 28, 1946.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Nolan Smith, and four sisters, Violet Smith Morris, Marguerite Smith Rhodes, Opal Smith Baker and Velva Smith Simpson.
Survivors include his wife, the former Audrey Lee Ruth Cunningham; three sons, Stephen Smith of Sellersburg, Shawn Smith of DeFuniak Springs and Brian Smith of Jeffersonville; a daughter, Belinda Smith of California; and three sisters, Sylvia Smith Stroup of Florida, Goldie Smith Thomas of New Albany and Daisy Smith Stoner of Florida.
The funeral was Thursday, April 4, at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Home on Oak Street in New Albany.
