Alphonse A. Schmelz
Alphonse A. Schmelz, 73, Lanesville, died Monday, Feb. 11, at 1:12 p.m. at Norton Hospital in Louisville.
A native of Georgetown, born May 23, 1928, he was the son of the late George M. and Margart Betz Schmeltz.
He was a retired farmer and bus driver for Lanesville Community School Corp., and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville and Harrison County Council of Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include four sons, David A., Lawrence M. and Richard L. Schmelz, all of Georgetown, and Kenneth W. Schmelz of Corydon; a daughter, Angela M. Schmelz of Burke, Va.; a brother, Leonard C. Schmelz of Lanesville; two sisters, Mary E. Welch of Louisville and Anna M. Geswein of Lanesville; and seven grandchildren.
The funeral was Thursday, Feb. 14, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Father Harold Ripperger officiated. Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon handled the arrangements.
Pallbearers were Ray Allen, Danny Schmelz, Mike Emily, Jim Kaufman, Randy Phelps and Tim Bridges.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Alphonse A. Schmelz Memorial Fund at Lanesville Junior-Senior High School.
