Allen Parker, 84, Roswell, Ga., formerly of Harrison County, died Tuesday, Jan. 22.
A native of Terre Haute, born July 7, 1917, he was the son of the late William and Rose Parker.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and served with the 303rd Signal Operations.
He was an employee of Illinois Bell from 1940 to 1951, and began his own telephone company in Palestine, Ill., before joining Continental Telephone System in Corydon. He worked 22 years with Contel in various locations before retiring in 1982 as president of service and supply. He participated in the Boy Scouts of America, Rotary International and Chamber of Commerce of Corydon, and served as a deacon for the Presbyterian churches in Corydon and in Amherst, Va.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, the former Doris Leggitt; four children, Dr. Richard Parker of Portland, Ore., Kathy Schaffer of Utica, N.Y., and Sheryll and Kevin Parker, both of Alpharetta, Ga.; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service was Saturday, Jan. 26, at Roswell Presbyterian Church.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the American Heart Association.
