HC Community Foundation offers ‘mini grants’

The Harrison County Community Foundation has established “mini grants” up to $1,500, to award each month.
The grants will support small projects outside of the foundation’s regular semi-annual grant cycles.
“The purpose is to support unexpected costs, such as emergency equipment repairs or purchases, special event support or other non-routine, non-recurring expenses,” said Steve Gilliland, the foundation’s executive director.
To apply, qualified not-for-profit organizations in Harrison County should submit a one-page letter explaining the purpose of the grant, total project cost, and why no other source of funding is available to achieve the objective.
The letters should arrive at the foundation office (hand-delivered or mailed) by the first day of each month. The foundation’s board of directors typically convenes the first Monday of each month.
Applicants will be notified of any mini-grant decisions the day after the board meeting, Gilliland said. Denied requests may not be resubmitted for six months, he said.
