Scottsburg girls and Austin boys win MSC

Warm weather greeted runners at the annual Mid-Southern Conference cross country meet at Hardy Lake yesterday afternoon.
A total of 100 runners competed in the event.
On the girls side, Brownstown’s Winter Holman continued her dominance of the event by winning in 15:45, which was over a minute ahead of second place-finishing Bailey Hamman of Clarksville.
Corydon’s Sunny Hipple, a senior, wound up sixth in 17:04 while junior teammate Colleen Merk also picked up all-conference honors by edging out North Harrison’s Mariah Yates at the line for 10th place.
Sarah Esarey was 17th for Corydon with Kristina Fessel in 18th. Julie Hoehn took 25th.
The Lady Cats had three runners pack together 27th through 29th place: Gayla Schmelz, Desiree Brooks and Amanda Hecker.
Scottsburg won the overall girls title with 55 points with Clarksville second (67), Silver Creek third (73) and Corydon fourth (76). Brownstown wound up fifth and North Harrison sixth.
Austin’s Carl Roberts shook off a close race midway through the boys event with teammate Chris Bowling and North Harrison freshman Ryan Byrne to capture the boys individual crown in a time of 17:07.
The Eagles also captured the team title by nine points over North Harrison (39-48). Silver Creek was third, Scottsburg fourth, Corydon fifth and Brownstown sixth.
Bowling hung around for second place while Byrne continued his hot-streak for third place in 17:20. Cougars teammates Scott Robertson took fifth (17:27), Andrew Wolsiefer was seventh (17:42), Kyle Beckman was 11th and Kyle Fisher was 22nd. Clayton Harbeson was 47th for North as well.
Corydon’s Sean Kravitz was 14th overall in a time of 18:03 to lead the Panthers contingency. James Yeager was 29th, Russell Brown was 31st, Phillip Barth was 34th and Zach Redden was 36th. Daniel Pack wound up 37th for Corydon with Bryan Eads 41st.
