Pearson hired by Crawford; Corydon also makes changes
The coaching faces of the region are changing yet again.
Crawford County graduate Hal Pearson was hired last month as the new head coach for the girls varsity basketball team at his alma mater.
Pearson, who had been at North Harrison as freshman coach for a two-year period, a JV coach for three years (with a 48-12 mark), guided the junior varsity Cougars to its first-ever undefeated record two years ago.
The hiring was made in early August. Pearson will replace Larry Eastridge, who held the position for three years and compiled a 36-29 record.
“I’m excited about returning and coaching at Crawford,” Pearson said. “All the school board, administration, and lower level coaches have been a pleasure to work with thus far. The opportunity for me to run my own program is very exciting.
“I think you’ll see positive attitudes on and off the floor from these girls. They win and lose with class.”
— The South Harrison School Corp. hired a new junior varsity girls basketball coach at its Sept. 13 meeting.
Laura Shireman, who graduated from the University of Indianapolis, replaces Sue Towsley.
Corydon Central also landed a new girls softball coach at the same meeting.
Joseph Oakes, who will sponsor National Honor Society at the school, replaces Kim Briscoe at the helm of the Class 2A defending sectional champions.
Briscoe, who started the softball program at Corydon in 1993, had a 111-72 mark as coach of the Lady Panthers including a 25-6 record last season.
