Lady Panthers win NH track invite

The Corydon Central girls’ track and field team took the top honors Friday at the North Harrison Invitational, scoring a team-best 99 points. The Lady Panthers outlasted runner-up Providence (88-1/3) and third-place finisher Silver Creek (70-1/2).

Brownstown Central dominated on the boys’ side, winning by a 47-point margin over runner-up Silver Creek. North Harrison (72) finished third in the event, and Corydon Central (48) was fourth.

In the girls’ field events, Corydon Central’s Kaitlin Salomon took home blue ribbons in two events, winning the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches and the long jump with a distance of 14-10. Jordan Dagenhart completed a first-second sweep in the long jump for the Lady Panthers with a distance of 14-6.

North Harrison’s Emma Book was third in the pole vault at 7-6, and Crawford County’s Shawn Johnson struggled in the high jump and finished fourth at 4-8. Also in the high jump, South Central’s Maddie O’Connor was fifth (4-8).

Corydon Central’s Ashley Oliver was fourth in the shot put with a distance of 35 feet.

In the boys’ field events, North Harrison’s Dayton van Uitert took the top spot in the shot put with a distance of 46 feet with Crawford County’s Dakota Curl second at 45-2.

In the pole vault, Corydon Central’s Logan Dunaway and Chris Tucker were third (10-6) and fourth (9-6), respectively. North Harrison’s Dylan Knopp was fourth in the high jump (5-10), and Crawford County’s Ty Nickelson was fifth (5-8). Knopp was third in the long jump with a distance of 18-8.

In the first running events, Lanesville’s Erica Daly was third in both the 100-meter dash (13.38) and 200 (28.03). South Central’s Bailey Crosier was second in the 200 (27.63), and North Harrison’s Nicole Keene fourth (28.46).

In the boys’ first sprinting events, Corydon Central’s Clayton Miller was third in the 100 (11.50) and fourth in the 200 (23.38).

In the hurdles events, Brownstown’s Rob Fox swept both boys’ runs with a winning time of 15.69 seconds in the 110 high hurdles and Lanesville’s Micah Lane second in 16.32. Fox won the 300 hurdles in 42.75, with Lanesville’s Zack Jones fourth (43.73) and Corydon Central’s Nick Keith fifth (45.89).

Corydon Central’s Sidney Capelle swept both girls’ hurdle events, winning the 100 in 47.53 and the 300 in 47.53. South Central’s Jasmine Nalley was third (17.37) in the 100 hurdles, and Corydon Central’s Olivia Lawson was fourth (17.46). Corydon Central’s Jordan Dagenhart was fifth in the 300 hurdles at 51.49.

The relays saw Corydon Central win three times in the girls’ 400 (Keely Martin, Capelle, Dagenhart, Salomon, 52.28), 800 (Catherine Leupp, Michalynn Miller, Martin, Lawson, 1:56.60), and the 1,600 (Kelcie Byrd, Dagenhart, Capelle, Martin, 4:18.57). Silver Creek won the 3,200-meter relay in 10:14.41, with North Harrison fourth (11:02.46) and South Central fifth (11:26.03).

Crawford County won the boys’ freshman 400-meter relay with a time of 50.22 seconds with Corydon Central second (51.06). In the boys’ varsity 400-meter relay, North Harrison was fourth (46.86) and Corydon Central fifth (46.98). The Cougars were second in the 800-meter relay (1:39.58) and Corydon Central fourth (1:40.91). The Eastern (Pekin) 1,600-meter relay team set the only meet record of the night with a time of 3:29.47, while Corydon Central placed third (3:44.93) in the event. North Harrison was third in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 8:33.34.

In the distance events, North Harrison’s Hayley Elliott was third (2:34.79) in the 800 with South Central’s Sandy Wagner fifth (2:36.35). North Harrison’s Ashton Bosler swept both the 1,600 (5:25.80) and 3,200 (11:55.44).

In the boys’ distance events, Corydon Central’s Jeremy Buess finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:06.70 and North Harrison’s Curtis Wetzel was sixth (2:10.63). North Harrison’s Daniel Fleace dominated both the 1,600 (4:31.03) and 3,200 (10:10.32) with wins. Wetzel was third in the 1,600 (4:44.40), and Crawford County’s Cody Carlton tied for fifth (4:46.10).
