The technological ball continues to roll at Lanesville in anticipation of moving to a one-to-one laptop initiative.

At the Feb. 18 meeting of the Lanesville Community School Corp. Board of Trustees, Supt. Steve Morris said that a technology audit would take place Feb. 26 by Five-Star Technology Solutions. The audit would include classroom observation and meetings with three focus groups. The company will produce a report to give the corporation guidance as to what is further needed to enhance the technology experience at Lanesville.

During her principalís report, Lanesville Elementary Principal Marsha Himmelhaver said her schoolís Science Bowl team finished in the Top 10 of its division, second-grader Lily Romeo was second runner-up at the county spelling bee and the fifth- and sixth-grade boysí basketball teams fared well at the county tourney, finishing as county champion and county runner-up, respectively.

Himmelhaver said the school had completed its acuity testing, with scores in match ranging from 72 percent passing in third grade to 92 percent passing in fourth grade, and from 84 percent passing in sixth grade to 98 percent passing in fourth grade.

During his principalís report, Morris said acuity testing was finishing up and that ISTEP testing was being pushed back a couple of weeks to the third week of March.

Morris told the board that, if the corporation has to miss any additional days due to weather, the corporation will have to look into some of the ideas to recover lost teaching days as shared by the Indiana Dept. of Education. Those ideas included adding an hour on to the school day.

He went on to say that the previous week of school was the first full, uninterrupted week (no missed school or weather delays) since December.

In another matter, the board approved the hiring of varsity baseball coach Rusty McCubbins, junior varsity baseball coach Cody Hussung, assistant baseball coach Eric Hancock and unpaid volunteer assistant baseball coaches Corey Hussung, Jonathan Cates and Sean Smith. Board president Donnie Hussung abstained on the votes for the Hussungs, who are his sons. The board also approved the hiring of high school track coaches Bob Winstead (boys) and Brittany Gayhart (girls) and junior high track coaches Chris Dodds (boys) and Sara Dodds (girls).
