Panthers reach 10th victory

Corydon Central improved to 10-1 on the season Friday, defeating Mid-Southern Conference foe Salem 69-41 in Corydon.

Salem put up a battle in the opening quarter, going back and forth with the Class 3A No. 4 Panthers until Corydon Central led 18-14 after eight minutes.

Leading 33-25 at the half, Corydon Central eventually put the game well out of reach with a 21-point third quarter.

Continuing with the balanced scoring that has followed Corydon Central thus far, Brayden Lander led the way with 15 points. Bronson Kessinger added 14 points, while Mitchell Frederick (12 points) and Tommy Wiseman (11 points) also reached double figures. Timothy Wiseman nearly put all five starters in double figures, scoring nine points.

Tommy Wiseman led the team in rebounds with nine to go along with six assists. As a team, the Panthers were dominant on the glass, out-rebounding Salem 34-24.

The visitors were led in scoring by Caleb Couch’s 12 points that included a pair of triples.

The Panthers are one of four remaining teams — Clarksville, Brownstown Central and Silver Creek — unbeaten in MSC play. Corydon Central will face two of those this weekend: The Panthers will host 2A No. 2 Clarksville on Friday and 3A No. 7 Brownstown Central on Saturday; both games will tip at 7:30 p.m.
