Wilda G. Burnworth

Wilda Gilliland Burnworth, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013.

Born July 20, 1928, in English, she was the daughter of the late Noble and Mary Gilliland.

She was director of medical records at the Evansville State Hospital, retiring in 1991 after 33 years of service; was a 50-plus-year member of the Isis Temple No. 41, Daughters of the Nile, serving as queen in 1969 and holding numerous leadership positions in the Supreme Temple of the Daughters of the Nile; was a 50-plus-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; was a member of the Isis Temple Patrol, having served as president, Eastside Christian Church, where she served as an elder, and the Golden Fleece Chapter No. 176 in Princeton; was an honorary member of the Pioneers of the Indiana State Police; and was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Elmo and Bobby Gene Gilliland; her husband of 46 years, Norman Burnworth, in 1994; and a daughter, Karen, in 1961.

Survivors include a son, Kent; a sister, Genevia Swinney of Taswell; and two granddaughters.

Visitation: Thursday, Oct. 3, from 2 to 8 p.m., with an Isis Temple Daughters of the Nile memorial service at 7, and Friday, Oct. 4, after 9 a.m. at Alexander East Chapel Funeral Home in Evansville.

Funeral: Friday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.

Officiant: The Rev. Dr. Linda Parker.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Isis Temple Patrol or Youth Resources of Southwestern Indiana.
