Wilbur F. Richards

Wilbur F. Richards, 94, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012.

Born Oct. 2, 1918, in Southern Indiana, he graduated with honors from Central Normal College in Danville, earned advanced degrees from Indiana and Butler universities, was principal at Mooresville High School and a math teacher and guidance counselor at North Central before retiring in 1982 after 43 years of service. He also coached basketball in Southern Indiana. He was a member of several organizations, including the Lions Club, the Shriners, was a 33rd-degree Mason and was a member of Union Chapel Methodist Church. He also served as a captain in the Army for four years in Europe during World War II.

He had seven siblings: Floyd, Harold, Edsel, Brooks, Dallas, Estel and Barbara Huffman.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, the former Doris LaDuke. They had two sons, Dave and Bruce, and a grandson.

Visitation: Sunday, Oct. 7, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, in Indianapolis.

Funeral: Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at 10 a.m. at Union Chapel Methodist Church with burial in Rosehill Cemetery in Elizabeth.

The family suggests memorial gifts to the Scholarship Fund of Union Chapel Methodist Church, 2720 E. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46240.

    I am sorry to see that your father/brother passed away. I was in Laconia this past weekend and my Aunts were saying that Wilbur could be a cousin to my dad his name was Benjamin Richard and his dad was Esse Richard from Maukport. I was hoping if you are related you could help my niece she is trying to find out about the Richard family. Dad had nothing Pappaw gave him to his moms side of the family when he was 4 months old, his mom died young. If you can help me I would appreciate am email back SE0870@att.com.
