I do believe the county needs additional officers but using the data represented in the article seems to be missing something. Shouldn't the population density be considered as part of the justification. $475k doesn't seem like much, but that is only for one year.

I respect what Sheriff Seelye and his officers do. Hitting hard on the meth labs and dealers should be the big focus (The users of that and heroin are the ones who are breaking into homes). I would ask the Sheriff to reach out to his counterparts in other parts of the country to determine the most accurate method of identifying officer staffing needs. Perhaps adding 2 officers a year and then 1 on the third year.
