Stewart claims poker event

April 02, 2008 | 07:45 AM

Corydon Democrat staff writer Alan Stewart won the World Series of Poker Texas Hold'em media tournament Monday afternoon on the Glory of Rome riverboat at Caesars Indiana.

Corydon Democrat staff writer Alan Stewart flashes his winning hand at the media tournament at the World Series of Poker at Caesars Indiana.
Stewart, who won his first media tourney in April 2006, outlasted a field of 18 participants to win a $1,000 donation to be given to the charity of his choice.

A fan of The Celebrity Apprentice, Stewart elected to send the donation to the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network, the same charity Apprentice runner-up Trace Adkins fostered in honor of his 6-year-old daughter, Brianna, on the hit NBC television show. Like millions of other Americans, Adkins' daughter suffers from life-threatening allergies to foods that contain milk, nuts and eggs.

FAAN helps raise public awareness through advocacy and education to advance research on behalf of all those affected by food allergies and anaphylaxis.

Stewart also won a trip that includes hotel, dining and spa to Harrah's Grand Tunica property in Tunica, Miss.

Runner-up in the tournament was Lachlan McLean of 840-WHAS radio, followed in third by former University of Louisville coach Denny Crum. Other top finishers were G. Douglas Dreisbach, editor of Southern Gaming Magazine, fourth; Fox-41 chief meteorologist Marc Weinberg, fifth; and deejay Aaron (Gator) Glass, formerly of WAMZ and now with Froggy FM-104.9 in Frankfort, Ky., sixth.

Your generous contribution to FAAN will help millions of kids, like mine, who have food allergies. Thank you for thinking of FAAN. Your heart must be as big as Trace Adkins'!

My 6 year old son has the same life-threatening food allergies as Trace Adkin's daughter. Your donation is a confirmation that Trace did an outstanding job raising awareness for food allergies, which are often misunderstood.
