Wiseman snags 2nd Old Cap Club Championship

August 27, 2014 | 09:34 AM

Coming off a stellar high school campaign as a junior then a summer that included an appearance at the Indiana Open, Timothy Wiseman proved to remain in good form, winning the Old Capital Club Championship.

The win at the Club Championship is the second in Wiseman's young career. He won the event as a high school sophomore in 2012.

Last season, fellow Corydon Central teammate Ryan Crawford triumphed.

During the school season, Wiseman finished fifth at the IHSAA state golf tournament. Returning home to Old Capital in Corydon, the Ball State University commit finished the 36-hole, two-day event with a 3-under par 141.

On Saturday, Wiseman posted what would be the tournament's lowest 18-hole score. With a round full of birdies, Wiseman shot a 4-under par 68.

The score gave Wiseman a four-stroke lead over Joe Byrd. Shooting even par on Saturday, Byrd backed up his round with a 71 on Sunday.

Wiseman, however, shot a 73 to hang on for the win by two strokes.

Finishing back at a distant third was Larry Harmon, who went 73, 76 to card 149. Defending champ Crawford took fourth with a 151 (78-73).

Other participants scoring in the championship flight were Jon Mathes (153), Matt Bruce (153), Keith Marshall (165) and Chase Best (168).

The winner of the first flight was Scott Armstrong by two strokes. He shot 81 on Saturday then 76 on Sunday (157). Bob Morris placed second (159).

In the second flight, Brayden Lander posted the lowest two-day score with a 168 (86-82).

Two flights made up the senior division. Dwight Seals took the A Flight, shooting even par on Sunday to finish with a 149 overall. Alan Hess placed second (155). In the B Flight, Bob Glordan carded a 3-under par 69 on Sunday, 157 overall, to run away with the honor.

The Ladies Flight saw four women chase the title. Rita Stocksdale defended her title by shooting a 91 on Saturday and 83 on Sunday (174). Placing second was Karen Breeden (185).
