Lady Cats sweep rival on courts

April 23, 2014 | 01:18 PM

Weather may have delayed the match between rivals North Harrison and Corydon Central a day, but the Lady Cats didn't mind, as they rolled to a 5-0 victory in girls' tennis.

Originally scheduled for last Tuesday, the teams met on Wednesday at Corydon Central.

The first set across all five courts was nearly flawless for the Lady Cats. Four of the opening sets were 6-0 wins.

Playing in the top singles match, North Harrison's Maddie Janes rolled in the first set 6-0 against Lilly Kopsolias. The second set was tighter, but Janes skirted away with a 6-3 decision.

Lindsey Schumaker took care of business in No. 2 singles, defeating Valerie Crawford 6-0, 6-1.

In No. 3 singles, Rachel Biddle defeated Bethany Thomas 6-0, 6-2.

Twin sisters Payton and Sydney Fravel rolled in doubles play, defeating Bridget Kelly and Meredith Wells 6-1, 6-1.

Playing in the No. 2 slot, Lady Cat netters Lexi James and Kaylee Nordhoff got the best of Annie Blumenstock and Jenna Price 6-0, 6-1.
