Two weeks removed from winning the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational, the Corydon Central boys' golf team took on a big challenge last weekend.
Participating in the Spring Preview at the Legends of Indiana on Saturday, the Panthers were one of 12 ranked teams to take on the 18-hole course. The Legends, located in Franklin, is the site of the state final, which will take place in June.
Following the Fuzzy result, Corydon Central went from unranked in the coaches poll to No. 12.
At the Spring Preview, Corydon Central validated the ranking, placing fourth among 24 teams. As a team, the Panthers shot a 318.
Leading the way among teams was runaway winner No. 4 Hamilton Southeastern with a 298. Also just ahead of Corydon Central was No. 2 Columbus North (312) and No. 3 Carmel (314).
Corydon Central managed to finish ahead of top 10 teams No. 5 Noblesville (319), No. 6 Pendleton Heights (326) and No. 10 Floyd Central (329).
All five Corydon Central participants kept scores inside 85.
Timothy Wiseman paced the Panthers with a 3-over par 75. The score placed Wiseman tied for sixth overall. Finishing close behind Wiseman was fellow junior Mitchell Frederick with a 6-over par 78, placing tied for 14th.
Rounding out the Corydon Central scores were Tommy Wiseman (82), Ryan Crawford (83) and Steven Coleman (85).
The overall medalist was Columbus North senior Michael VanDeventer with a 2-under par 70.
Up next for Corydon Central will be hosting the Bud Bennett Memorial Invitational Saturday at Old Capital Golf Club in Corydon. Also playing in the field will be Lanesville and North Harrison. Tee time will be 2 p.m.
