Spring tree buds filled the timber-lined Wooded View Golf Course in Clarksville on an ideal golf morning Saturday.
While the course always presents challenges, most notably steering clear from the woods, 12 teams took aim at the Wooded View Invitational.
A year ago at the event, North Harrison's Chase Spencer won a sudden-death (two holes) playoff to earn the medalist honors. In contention again, Spencer was among the leaders, but he finished fifth overall with an 11-over par 82.
Within the team race, Scottsburg was the run-away champion. The Warriors shot a 325 to win by 29 strokes on the future site of the Mid-Southern Conference meet in May.
In all, seven of nine MSC teams participated in the Invitational. Finishing behind Scottsburg was second-place finisher Silver Creek with a 354.
Not far behind the Dragons was North Harrison, tallying 357. Those three would shoot lower team scores than fellow MSC teams Salem (414), Charlestown (478), Clarksville (501) and Austin (no team score).
Silver Creek's Sam Garr won the medalist honors with a strong round. He took to the 18-hole, par-71 course by shooting a 76.
North Harrison's Joseph Hinton had an up-and-down day, finishing with an 83. Also playing for the Cougars was Shawn Bishop (94), Jackson Shaffer (98) and Ryan Dones (104).
Up next for North Harrison will be a multi-team match at Chariot Run near Elizabeth tomorrow (Thursday), hosted by South Central.
Team scores – 1. Scottsburg 325, 2. Silver Creek 354, 3. North Harrison 357, 4. Borden 369, 5. Jeffersonville 373, 6. Henryville 405, 7. Salem 414, 8. Rock Creek Academy 451, 9. New Washington 467, 10. Charlestown 478, 11. Clarksville 501, 12. Austin (no team score).
