A total of 402 schools — three more than last year — and 5,480 student-athletes are set to participate in the tourney. It's the first time 400 schools or more have entered the girls' state tournament.

Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday and run through Saturday, Feb. 15, with the regional round slated for Feb. 22 and semi-states on March 1. The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute for the third consecutive year on Saturday, March 8.

The defending state champions are: 4A — Bedford North Lawrence; 3A — Mount Vernon (Fortville); 2A — Evansville Mater Dei and A — Fort Wayne Canterbury.

Tickets are $6 per session or $10 for all sessions. Contact schools for tickets.

Corydon Central, the defending sectional champion, and North Harrison will play in the Class 3A Sectional 30 at Charlestown. The sectional features six teams with winning records, with each drawing one another in the opening round.

The Class A New Washington sectional features Lanesville and South Central. The Lady Rebels drew rival New Washington in the opening round. It will be the eighth consecutive year the two have met in the post-season. They will also close the regular season tomorrow (Thursday) against one another at New Washington.

Crawford County will compete in the six-team Class 2A Sectional 46 at Eastern (Pekin), while Floyd Central will participate in the Class 4A Sectional 15 at Jennings County against defending state champion Bedford North Lawrence.

Session tickets ($10) are on sale for the 3A Sectional at Corydon Central during school hours.
