The Borden boys' and girls' cross country teams stomped and ran their way to sweeping the Southern Athletic Conference meet Oct. 2 at the Heritage Grounds in Lanesville.

In the boys' race, Lanesville's Travis Kaake was the lone runner to break up Borden's chance at a perfect team score. Kaake raced to a second-place finish, finishing with a time of 17:10.

Borden's Julien Magallanes ran away with the top spot, running in 16:41.

Rounding out the top six were Borden athletes — Brian Burton, Nathen Magallanes, George Tipker and Gavin Tipker — to give the Braves 19 points.

Lanesville finished second with 46 points, led by Kaake. Brandon Price finished seventh with a time of 17:30, while teammate Andrew Kennedy finished ninth (18:16). Rounding out the Eagles' top five finishers were Gabe Scronce (18:30) in 11th and Caleb Clifton (19:26) in 17th.

South Central placed fourth in the team standings with 103 points, paced by Dalton Terry's 14th-place finish in 18:52.

Also competing for the Rebels were Alex Goforth (19th, 19:33), Nathan Shaffer (20th, 19:45), Brandon Huda (24th, 20:03) and Aiden Romero (26th, 20:32).

The girls' competition was closer among teams with Borden edging out Lanesville 26-31.

Henryville's Sadie Spears ran away with the individual title, winning by more than 90 seconds with a time of 20:20.

Lanesville claimed the sixth-through-ninth-place spots, paced by Caryn Eisert's time of 22:45 in sixth. Bailey Kaake was seventh in 23:31, followed by Erica Kennedy (23:34) and Emily Purdy (23:57). Rounding out the Lanesville team scorers was Elise Lawson in 12th (24:39).

Two competitors wore South Central colors, led by Elizabeth Pettit in 10th, finishing in 24:00. Maddie O'Connor (25:20) also competed, finishing 15th.

In the boys' junior high race, Lanesville's David Blank was the top overall finisher with a time of 10:34. New Washington was the top boys' junior high team with 37 points, while Henryville won the girls' team title.

The girls' and boys' sectional races took place yesterday (Tuesday) with the top 15 individuals and top five teams advancing to regional. The Crawford County Regional will take place Saturday at 10:30 a.m.
