Football pairings announced for 40th post-season

For the 40th year, plans for post-season play have been announced as 315 schools were placed into brackets Sunday for the IHSAA Football State Tournament presented by the Indianapolis Colts.

Sectional play will begin Friday, Oct. 19. The sectional semi-final will take place the following Friday then conclude with the championship on Friday, Nov. 2. Regional games will be played Friday, Nov. 9, and semi-states on Friday, Nov. 16.

The 10 teams that earn a berth in the state finals will play on Thanksgiving weekend in Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the NFL's Indianapolis Colts, the state tournament's presenting sponsor.

The Class A and 2A championship games are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 23, with the 3A, 4A and 5A games the next day. In all, 310 games will be played throughout the state during the six-week tournament.

Admission to sectional games are $6 per person. All games kickoff at 7 p.m.

In Class 3A Sectional 23 (eight teams), the draw is as follows:

Game 1: Salem (3-5) at North Harrison (2-6)

Game 2: Heritage Hills (4-4) at Brownstown Central (7-1)

Game 3: Silver Creek (2-6) at Corydon Central (7-1)

Game 4: Mitchell (2-6) at Charlestown (8-0)

Game 5: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2

Game 6: Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4

Game 7: Championship

In Class 2A Sectional 31 (eight teams), the draw is as follows:

Game 1: Clarksville (4-4) at Eastern (Pekin) (1-7)

Game 2: Lawrenceburg (7-1) at Crawford County (0-7)

Game 3: Triton Central (5-3) at Monrovia (3-5)

Game 4: Providence (3-5) at Paoli (6-2)

Game 5: Winner of Game 1 vs. Winner of Game 2

Game 6: Winner of Game 3 vs. Winner of Game 4

Game 7: Championship
