Dodge installed as IEHA president

July 02, 2014 | 10:11 AM

Marcia Dodge recently became the first representative of Harrison County elected to serve as an officeholder at the state level of the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association. That office just happens to be at the top, as president. (Harrison Countian Shirley Perry previously served as IEHA president but was representing a Washington County Homemakers club.)

"I am very humbled and honored to be selected and voted in by our membership to represent them this year," Dodge said.

Dodge was officially recognized as president June 12 at a ceremony at Purdue University in West Lafayette in front of family and friends.

"The members from this county and district have been very supportive of me throughout my life," Dodge said. "But walking into the Purdue University Union's North Ball Room and seeing more than 50 of the membership in that room really touched me. I have looked up to several of those ladies my whole life. They were like having several moms. They have set great examples for me to follow."

The state board president's responsibilities include serving on the IEHA's I-LEaD board (Indiana Leadership, Education and Development). The I-LEaD program is designed for new, emerging leaders who wish to grow in confidence and leadership skills, Dodge said.

Responsibilities also include serving as the chair at state board meetings, overseeing focus and activity groups and organizing annual business meetings at the conference in June.

The IEHA has three affiliation organizations which are National Volunteer Outreach Network, Country Women's Council USA and the Associated Country Women of the World.

Dodge will attend two national and one world conferences as a voting delegate in each. The first is the NVON Conference in July in Indianapolis. The second is the CWC USA Conference in Manitowoc, Wis., in September. The third is the 28th Triennial Conference in Warwick Conference Park, University of Warwick, England, Aug. 18 through 24.

Founded in 1913, the IEHA continues to build on its rich heritage by working to strengthen Indiana homes and families. Membership is open to all regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sex, age, handicap or national origin.

Dodge will serve as president until June 2015.
