Stults set to face Day

June 11, 2014 | 07:49 AM

All four county council seats up for grabs this fall will now feature contested races, as the Harrison County Democrat Party selected Danny Stults to vie for the District 4 seat against Republican Sam Day, according to Democrat party chair Jim Kincaid.

Stults, who is the chief of the Heth Township Volunteer Fire Dept., was elected in a special caucus.

Regardless of how the votes turn out in November, a new face will take over the seat for the first time in 20 years, as Republican Ralph Sherman, a five-term councilman, was defeated in last month's primary by Day.

District 4, the southern most district, consists of Washington, Heth, Boone, Webster, Posey and Taylor townships.

The deadline for either party to fill a vacancy on the General Election ballot is Monday, June 30, at noon.

Kincaid said he also has plans to fill the vacancy for auditor.

The same deadline applies for an independent or minor party candidate to file a petition of nomination with a county voter registration office for certification of petition signatures.Candidates can withdraw before Tuesday, July 15, at noon.

The deadline to file a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate in the General Election for an office other than school board is Thursday, July 3, at noon.

The deadline for a school board candidate to file is Friday, Aug. 22, at noon.

The General Election will be Tuesday, Nov. 4.
