Funds set up for fire victims

May 07, 2014 | 10:09 AM

An account has been set up at First Harrison Bank for a Depauw family who lost their home and all its contents to a fire April 28.

Those wishing to donate can do so under the title "Benefit fund for Julia Bosler".

The blaze apparently started at the two-story home along Lincoln Springs Road, north of Depauw, on the first floor due to an electrical issue sometime after 3 p.m.

The call was received at Harrison County Dispatch at 3:38 p.m. and the first units arrived six minutes later, at 3:44 p.m., according to Ramsey Volunteer Fire Dept. Chief Ned Wiseman.

The first firefighters on the scene advised "heavy fire" on the second floor of the structure.

Thirty-five firefighters eventually battled the fire and got it under control in about an hour.

"I had crews on the second floor, and the fire got so bad that we had to call for an emergency evacuation of the structure," Wiseman said. "All fire units did an excellent job fighting the fire."

Assisting Ramsey VFD at the scene were members of the Palmyra and Milltown volunteer fire departments as well as Harrison County Emergency Medical Services.

Besides the Bosler family, Julia's niece, Rhonda Newbern, an employee at Culver's of Corydon, resided at the home. The family said clothing has been provided and the plan is to rebuild the home. The homeowner did not have insurance, so monetary donations would be greatly appreciated.

"Everyone has been so kind," Julia's son, Dusty Rhodes, said.
