Arrests help crack theft ring

January 29, 2014 | 09:15 AM

Indiana Conservation Officers arrested a Palmyra man Jan. 20 and uncovered clues linking him and others to multiple burglaries and thefts in the Southern Indiana area.

Lowell Tom Wilson, 49, was arrested by Cpl. Nate Berry and Officer Neil Brewington and incarcerated at the Washington County Jail on charges of receiving stolen property and auto theft.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 20, an off-duty conservation officer received a call from a resident who witnessed two males abandon an Oldsmobile Bravada and set it on fire near Fredericksburg before fleeing on foot. Conservation officers quickly located and arrested Wilson, who also was in possession of stolen jewelry and credit cards.

A short while later, another male, Jeremy Henley, 30, also of Palmyra, was located on foot and arrested by a Washington County Sheriff's deputy.

Subsequent interviews of Wilson and Henley, conducted by conservation officers, state police and sheriff's deputies, gleaned information that led them to Crawford County.

On Jan. 22, Conservation Officer Dennis Talley located a vehicle and trailer registered to an acquaintance of Wilson's abandoned near a residence that had been burglarized. Among the stolen items recovered were a television, air compressor and stereo equipment.

As a result of this investigation, numerous theft and burglary cases involving ATVs and other personal items have been solved. The investigation is ongoing by multiple agencies, and additional charges and arrests are possible.
