County drafts updated ADA plan

January 22, 2014 | 12:12 PM

Harrison County has conducted a self-evaluation of all county-owned facilities and all county programs for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and a draft transition plan describing the results of the self-evaluation has been prepared.

Title II of the ADA requires that each of the county's services, programs and activities be readily accessible and usable by individuals with disabilities.

Copies of the self-evaluation and transition plan are available for public review at the following locations:

•Auditor's Office, Government Center, 245 Atwood St., Suite 211, Corydon (during normal business hours)

•Harrison County Public Library, 105 N. Capitol, Corydon (during normal business hours)

•County website in PDF format: http://harrisoncounty.in.gov/index.php/americans-with-disabilities-act

Comments can be provided, in writing, by the deadline of Feb. 3 at 8 a.m., to Karen Engleman, ADA coordinator, at the Auditor's office or via e-mail at KarenE@harrisoncounty.in.gov. All comments will be reviewed, considered and included in the appendix of the document.

The Harrison County Board of Commissioners will hear comments about the transition plan at its regular meeting Monday, Feb. 3, at 8:30 a.m. in the Commissioner's Room at the Government Center. The public will have an opportunity to provide suggestions, ask questions and provide comments about the draft self-evaluation and transition plan. Engleman said it is the county's intention to adopt the self-evaluation and transition plan at the meeting.

Upon request, the county will provide written materials in appropriate alternative formats, or disability-related modification or accommodation, including auxiliary aids or services, to enable individuals with disabilities to participate in public meetings. To make a request, submit in writing to Engleman at 245 Atwood St., Suite 211, Corydon, IN 47112, your name, mailing address, phone number and a brief description of the requested materials and preferred alternative format or auxiliary aid or service at least three business days prior to the meeting.
