Benefits planned for two men

November 20, 2013 | 09:23 AM

Separate benefits are planned for Saturday for two Grantsburg men who are battling cancer.

Ronnie Phillips, 44, who is self-employed at Phillips and Son and who was diagnosed with metastatic squamous cell neck cancer, will be the beneficiary of a fundraiser from 1 to 10 p.m. at the English Park Building. There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, chili, drinks and other refreshments for sale. A silent auction and raffle with many autographed items from people such as Martina McBride, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn and the late George Jones will be available as well as several other items, including a ceramic fireplace, cherry swing and various furniture items.

The event also will include a baked goods auction, face painting and children's games, and event-goers will have a chance to see wood carving by Paul Moon, purchase a quilt block, create a personal message for Phillips and hear live entertainment by Roger Conley, T.C. Corn, Kirby Staley, Ronnie Schultz-Mike Cummings-Duane Myer, Veronica Lassiter, Pat Meehan, Dave Underwood, Little Mountain Band, Linda Smith Band and The Hiding.

For information about the silent auction and basket raffle donations, call Chris Enlow at 1-812-630-3131. For baked good donations, call Fran Wheeler at 1-812-639-3182 or 1-812-338-2045. For general information, call 1-630-9202 or 267-6811. Monetary donations can be mailed to Ronnie Phillips' Benefit, P.O. Box 75, Ferdinand, IN 47532.

From 2 to 5 p.m., at the Crawford County 4-H Community Park south of Marengo along S.R. 66, friends and family will have a fundraiser for Stacey Webster, 41, who has had a brain tumor return. Partial blindness in one eye and short-term memory problems has put him on disability.

His benefit will include a chili supper, with hot dogs, desserts and drinks, as well as a silent auction and raffles. There also will be Pampered Chef bunco and chicken bingo.
