Rail work to close S.R. 135

October 02, 2013 | 10:30 AM

The Indiana Dept. of Transportation will close S.R. 135 next week to allow the Lucas Oil Rail Line to make repairs and renovations at its crossing located approximately two miles north of Corydon.

The S.R. 135 closure — between S.R. 335 and Interstate 64 near Quarry Road — is scheduled to begin Monday morning, weather permitting, and is expected to continue through Friday, Oct. 11.

An official detour routes motorists along Interstate 64 and S.R. 64.

LNAC crews have been scheduled to tear out the existing rail crossing and replace it with new concrete panels. This will result in a smoother crossing for the motoring public.

Be glad that LNAC is doing this instead of the Indiana Department of Transportation Southeast Region. INDOT turned highway 62 from Corydon to Edwardsville into a noisy, rough, and dangerous stretch of highway with their chip and seal method of paving. I've driven on roads through disaster zones that are better than the end product of INDOT's work on highway 62.
